Tomaševski: let‘s keep calm and solidarity

Due to the threat of coronavirus in Lithuania, educational institutions, all non-food stores have been closed since Monday, the activity of medical institutions and offices has been limited. Moreover, various meetings, not only large ones, are cancelled.

Small (up to 50 people) meetings with voters were still held last week. Valdemar Tomaševski met the residents of Dainava and Kalesninkai last Friday, on 13 March. He presented the most important works and tasks carried out by the structures and representatives of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania – Christian Families Alliance at various levels of government. He answered the questions of residents and listened to their suggestions and expectations. Together with the mayor of the Šalčininkai district, Zdzislav Palevič, Tomaševski took part in the Way of the Cross and the Holy Mass in the church of Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Kalesninkai.
L24.lt asked Tomaševski to evaluate and comment on the situation regarding the announcement of quarantine in Lithuania.

‘On Monday, 9th March, I had a meeting with the management of local governments and starosts of communes of the Vilnius Region. We discussed the arisen situation and therefore decided to cancel all the larger events with more than 50 participants, including the Saint Casimir’s Fair in Nemenčinė. These were ones of the first such decisions in Lithuania. Even more restrictions are needed today, therefore we cancel today’s meetings with the residents of Turgeliai and Akmenynė, tomorrow’s meetings in Rudamina and Jašiūnai as well as all others within at least a few weeks.  We support all necessary decisions of the government, ministers and local governments, but we also actively participate in their adoption and implementation,’ said the chairman of EAPL-CFA.

Tomaševski called for compliance with all the recommendations of state and local government institutions. He also appealed for community and family solidarity.

‘Elderly people and those struggling with chronic diseases are the most vulnerable to the virus. That is why younger people with stronger health should help their neighbours, their family members in necessary purchases of food, medicine, hygiene products, etc. Let us be solid and merciful,’ appealed Tomaševski.

The most vulnerable to the virus are the elderly and those struggling with chronic diseases. That is why younger people with stronger health should help neighbours, their family members in necessary purchases of food, medicine, hygiene products, etc. Let us be solid and merciful – appealed the MEP.

‘Let us remain calm and believe that Providence will definitely protect God’s people. On the other hand, let us use the quarantine today for a more dignified preparation for the Resurrection of Christ, to strengthen our family ties, and to reduce that pace of life which harms interpersonal relations. Let the institution of a multi-generational home church be strengthened during this period of Lent,’ encouraged Valdemar Tomaševski.
